The unmistakable twang of country music fills the air wherever you are in Nashville, and the country notes and rock n’ roll tunes have floated through the city of over a century. With the popularity of the once narrow genre spreading across our collective culture, the last few decades have seen Nashville grow into one of the trendiest cities to visit. The modern home of country music is a stylish cityscape with traditional Southern grandeur, an intriguing history, sophisticated amenities, and down-home hospitality.
Founded in 1779 on the shores of the lazily-wandering Cumberland River, Nashville served as an important shipping outpost and its prime location saw it grown into a major railroad center. During the Civil War, the city’s significance as a shipping port made it a coveted prize for enemy forces, and Nashville became one of the fist cities to fall to Union troops.
Although left in depleted economic straits following the Civil War, Nashville reclaimed its shipping and trading status within a few years, and a solid manufacturing economy brough a new prosperity to the city. It grew to become a national center for music publishing and eventually the home of the Grand Ole Opry, which put Nashville on the map as the home of country music.
nashville is alive with music- you can feel it under your feet and hear overlapping melodies of every style wafting out of downtown venues, day or night. The city’s legacy of country music is legendary, as a stroll through its preserved historic locations will reveal.
While music is the calling card of the city, Nashville is also home to haute cuisine, academic progression, and a vibrant culture. Sample the flavors of its sights, sound, and style in one of the most posh and sophisticated cities in the South.
“Nashville is such a fantastic city, with this great creative music energy. Then there’s that Southern hospitality, you can’t beat that.”
– Sam Palladio
